CHRISTINE PEDERSEN
Christine Pedersen creates work in porcelain and metals in her Calgary studio. Pedersen has worked with clay since her teens; she studied Jewellery + Metals at Alberta College of Art + Design, and hand-makes jewellery and smaller-scale mixed media sculpture. She is part of the LEXM artist team building larger commissions and public art. Strong texture, surface disruption, material curiosity, symbolic references and narrative are key elements in her work. By design, pieces often have an aged or just dug up quality.
Christine participates in community wood and soda firings whenever possible, she authored an article on wood-firing for Ceramics Review. Work has been featured by Ceramics Monthly, the Alberta Craft Council, Metal Arts Guild of Canada, published in recent books including Narrative Jewelry: Tales from the Toolbox, The Crafted Dish, and the Society of North American Goldsmith’s Jewelry and Metalsmithing Survey Vol 2.
