BARB TEMPLE
Barb Temple has always found solace and inspiration in the natural world, particularly in the vast expanse of land and sky. From her earliest years, she was happiest with pencil and paper in hand. In the 1990s, Barb embarked on her journey into metalsmithing, initially taking a weekend course. Her passion ignited, she furthered her skills with a night class at the Alberta University of the Arts, where she became captivated by the possibilities of metalwork.
In 2015, Barb rekindled her creative spark by reentering the world of metalsmithing through a weekly night class at the Blackboard Studio. Her passion for the craft flourished until the unexpected closure caused by the Covid- 19pandemic in 2020.Yet, amid the pandemic's challenges, Barb unearthed a bright side. With her regular studio space temporarily closed, she seized the chance to set up a studio at home. This new environment granted her the freedom and space to explore her craft more deeply, nurturing her artistic voice and fostering the evolution of her creations.
Throughout her artistic journey, Barb's work has been showcased in esteemed venues such as the Leighton Centre, The Blackboard Gallery, Craft Council of British Columbia, and the Alberta Craft Council. Guided by her deep connection to nature, her creations embody the textures, shapes, and mysteries she encounters in the landscapes she holds dear. Each piece is a testament to her profound bond with the natural world and her unwavering dedication to her craft.
